Subject: Parking Idea
not that cell phones work at Elphinstone, but name and cabin number maybe? This might help with some of the parking issues we've had in the past... (advice from Steven Raspa):
have all vehicles entering fill out parking passes with name and cell phone of driver on it and put in front window?
squish replied:
i offer to design such parking pass & have it available pre-event so people can print them out themselves, etc.
(of course we'll have some at greeters!)

Subject: [bmv_events_org] Recompression: Notes for Next Year
To: bmv_events_org@yahoogroups.com
I'm going to post my notes to this list because then they'll be in the archive and I can find them next year. Last year I put them on a wiki page which seems to have disappeared. Feel free to add, comment, or post your own.
Re: Gate/Tickets
-Three completely different numbers were produced by counting the waivers, the number of wristbands used, and the ticket stubs. The lowest number was the number of ticket stubs.
-Greeters were observed wristbanding people without asking them for tickets.
-Greeters did do a great job of making sure that everyone signed a waiver
-To my knowledge there were not any problems caused by admitting people who had not paid. Not sure if this is worth the effort of trying to 'fix' the problem
-Suggest that if we want a real, locked down gate, we might want to consider hiring a couple of locals to handle the tickets to wristbands exchange and have the greeters do their thing after that point. Historically we have not had success recruiting volunteers to work gate shifts, separate from greeters.
-Alternatively, checking wristbands at meals and/or for an hour or so each night at the moose lodge might be helpful.
Re: Kaboom! Fire from deck rattling windows.
-Observed much concern inside the dining hall regarding windows rattling
-Discussed situation with Lummox, who provided me with the opportunity to operate the kaboom! switch
-When operating switch, no problem with windows rattling was observed. Operated switch again. No further action taken.
Re: Parking problems
-Need signage next year marking out 'No Parking' areas: in front of white 'gate' leading to cabins from lower lot; around parking lot next to dining hall; in front of staff vehicles by director's house.
-Provide greeters with map of possible parking spots, including street parking offsite
-Ryan's suggestion (YMCA): provide a limited number of parking passes, available when tickets are purchased, people without passes must park off site. Possibly use overflow BC Ferries lot (if permission obtained) and have Ryan run a shuttle back and forth. This option would cost us money.
-Swamp parking was quite entertaining. Ask Jaap to do it again next year.
Re: Coffee Mugs
-The Y seems to have a strange aversion to letting us use the coffee cups at night. Styrofoam cups were the only thing available Friday night, Saturday night no cups at all.
-Ryan mentioned that they have "Camp Elphinstone" plastic travel mugs available, suggested that we buy one per person and include that cost in ticket price, he would sell them to us at cost. We could provide each person with a mug at the gate.
-Alternatively, buy a case of paper cups next year, or 100 camp mugs and just put them in the dining hall?
Re: Food
-I thought the food sucked this year (except for the salmon friday night) and that the cook was unpleasant to deal with. Not sure what other people's experiences were like. Next year, let's order pizza. Just kidding.
Re: Noise issues
-Ryan (YMCA) received noise complaints from neighbours. Possible sources: sound systems in cabins; Chapel. Not sure if anyone walked up by the houses to assess where the noise was coming from.
-Ryan suggests a sound system curfew in these areas next year
-no problem with noise levels from moose lodge or recompleasure dome
