=THE BIG TOP '08: Carnival=

This year, the Moose Lodge is being transformed into The Big Top --> Carnival Style!!!


Theme facets

• circus
• vaudeville
• turn of the last century travelling freak shows and extravaganzas
• modern blinky night time amusement park action... only de-default-worlded, of course!
• a pinch of giant feathers and masks and stuff

Attraction Stations

We would like 4-6 enthusiastic groups of people to each set up a station in the Moose Lodge, preferably contained in a tent, of from about 6'x6' to 12'x12'.
Their station will feature an "attraction" - or sub-theme - and be decked out inside and preferably outside accordingly...
Some attraction ideas:

• Fotoboof - Yonderboy is already on this (alright!)
• Hoochie Coochie Tent - Mardi-gras atmosphere... intimate lap-dance space with seating arrangements for receivers and just enough room for gifters. Stereo with appropriate music. Sign outside with "Next show on in _ minutes", or "show in progress"
• Miniscule of Sound - based on something they did in Glastonbury: a mini turntable setup, possibly with a bobble-head dj; a soundsystem pumping in tunes from the main decks, and no more than enough room for 3-5 people to dance in a perfect state of huddled crowdedness
• Room of mirrors - Like a carnival funhouse, only small enough to fit in a tent
• Turkish tent - a hookah, pillows, space for people to recline in a circle around it.
• Theme Cabin Thematic Extension Station - eg, Vancouver Precinct could do a Paddywagon...

Materials call-out

• If anyone has a 6 to 9 foot fake ferris wheel: We Love You. No expectations.
• Red / white ribbons
• Large Party balloons
• Helium for large party balloons - enough for 36 hours
• Banners / flags
• LOTS of fabric. Patterns and colors:
  • Red and yellow spirals
  • Red and yellow stripes
  • Red and light blue stripes
  • alternating stripes of somewhat dulled colors
  • other appropriately loud colors and patterns
• Blinkies and lights: Yellow and Red, some other colors may be useful
• Giant Feathers
• Masks to wear or adorn the place
• any other character decorations for the wall or the floor that you can scrounge up!

Costume Suggestions (but don't sweat it, there's so much else to dress up for)

• Vaudeville
• Masks
• Giant feathers
• Body suits
• loud lavish-ish footwear
• (clown)

Mar 25 Callout/Update:

Attraction Stations

We have a lot of space in the room to use, and we need your help! At 10 days from early arrival, we have a photobooth confirmed, but we need more!

Attraction stations are taken on by a small group of people, or an individual, with an idea for something taking up between 6'x6' and 12'x12' of space on the moose lodge floor.

Preferably it should vaguely gel with the Carnival Circus Vaudeville Theme of the Lodge

Using a tent as a containment for your attraction is now encouraged but not necessary.

Other possible ideas:
Foam lances, pedestals or whatnot for American Gladiator style battles
fortune telling / tarot reading tent w/ cushions and a little table
superhero phone booth (for rapid, confusing costume changes)

but you can probably come up with ones at least as good as these =D

Altered Toys

In the Carnival theme there are many shades including dark... in the name of Dark Carnival we would like to decorate part of The Big Top (aka Moose Lodge) with Freaks in the form of altered toys hanging from the ceiling using fishing line. So get out your hot glue guns and bring us 2 headed babies, 4 legged men, snake woman... whatever your imagination can dream up. Build them, bring them and we will hang them in the Dark corner of the Carnival for all to see. You will be expected to take your freaks home with you at the end.


Bring on the Plush

If everyone brought a couple plushy pillows or giant teddies to lounge on in the corners of the The Big Top we would love it. Just write or pin your name on them and bring 'em down to The Big Top, we will place them for Friday night and you can pick them up again Sunday.

The Big Top needs just a few more things from everyone if you can lend 'em:

• working disco ball for miniscule of sound
• pillows for the fortune teller tent
• divination items for the fortune teller tent
• mirrors for the room of mirrors
• lighting and blinking items for various parts of the lodge
