Rangers Pod
Recompression needs people to Ranger! Now that our Recomp is an official Burning Man sanctioned event it is time for us to develop our own pool of Rangers! Get your feet wet doing it at Recomp! It’s fun, it’s easy and you’ll be making a real contribution to the community. We need people to cover 4 hour shifts on Friday and Saturday nights. we’ll give you an abbreviated version of real Ranger training (but without the desert survival and USA law stuff) and lend you a radio for your shift. You get a chance to sample the experience without the big commitment! Curious? Try it out! To volunteer, contact rangers@recompression.com∞

What do you need in order to Ranger at Recompression 2008? Basically all you need is desire to help, a willingness to commit to doing a shift and showing up unaltered in any way, and a lot of common sense. There is no special training required to Ranger at Recomp although people with specialized training such as conflict resolution/mediation, counseling or first aid would be particularly welcome. Don't worry if you are new to the scene or you don't have any of these skills, we would still value your contribution. If you are less experienced and maybe a little unsure that Rangering is the thing for you but you still maybe want to help out, let me know and I will partner you up with one of our experienced Rangers.

If you think you would like to ranger on the playa, rangering at recompression would be a great first taste of what's rangering all about. I would highly recommend anyone rangering to (re)read the official black rock rangers manual which can be found at:
http://rangers.burningman.com/RangerManual_2006.pdf∞
The BRC ranger manual is a beautiful introduction to the art and philosophy of rangering. Some of the material is playa specific but it gives a great insight to the structure, resources and organization behind the Black Rock Rangers.
