First, find out what Recompression is!
Recompression is an annual gathering organized by the Burning Man Vancouver Community, hosted by the Greater Vancouver Interactive Arts Society (GVIAS). We create a Temporary Autonomous Zone (TAZ) that we, as participants, share responsibility for building. Our community experience features a Burn celebration, music, art, performance, workshops, theme camps, fire-spinning, ritual, gift-giving, experiential communication and friendship. We celebrate Recompression in an oceanside rain forest setting on British Columbia's beautiful Sunshine Coast. We are an active, friendly and diverse community, and we've always warmly welcomed other like-minded folk from around the world.
Please read the Participate page to review our guiding principles.

So you want to DJ for Recompression 2010?

Here's what you need to provide:
1. Your DJ/stage name
2. What you want to play
3. Recompression history (which years you played at the main stage; first timer?)
4. Times that you absolutely can NOT play (as in, rangering/volunteering elsewhere on a shift)
5. A picture of yourself (So I know who to look for when it's time to go on! Please keep it PG and easy to recognize)
6. A demo of your stuff!
Email all applications to djs@recompression.com Applications will NOT be considered unless all of the above is included.
All applications will receive a confirmation of receipt email; this does NOT mean you are being given a time slot. If you do NOT receive a confirmation email that your application was received within 48 hours, please re-send or email me directly: stephanie dot hendy at gmail dot com.
Please note demos are not being required for a measure of technical competence, they are required to ensure the flow of the evening.
All standard gear will be provided (CD decks, turntables, mixer). There is room for Live PA acts (don't let the "DJ" callout deter you!). ;)
Deadline for applications is Sunday February 28th at 11:59pm
Applications will NOT be accepted after this time
Thanks and looking forward to making this the best Recompression yet!! :D

News update as of March 9th, 2009

I have formulated a tentative DJ list.
I have not contacted anyone that I'm interested in yet, because I need to coordinate with Fire performance people to make sure I don't have people playing during the burn!
I will be contacting people I'm interested in, in the next couple days. I will be out of town again from Thursday the 12th to Saturday the 14th, at which point I will follow up again. I need to have everyone confirmed by the 16th, because I will be bringing it up and passing on the info to everyone at the last planning meeting on the 17th.
I have done my best to accommodate requested set times, however in order to construct a good flow for the whole evening, there may be some variance.
If you are not contacted before Thursday the 12th, then you have not been chosen to play. I did send out an email thanking everyone for their applications. If you were not chosen, it was because I felt your stuff was either too much like all the other applications, or too different to link into the night seamlessly. I gave preference to those that provided demos, and made a good effort to make an equal amount of choices of people I knew, people I didn't know, and people whose cherry will be popped!
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
