Here are some volunteer callouts for you to read. There's more info on other participation opportunities at recompression.com!
)'( )'( )'( The Big Top: Attraction Stations )'( )'( )'(
This year, the Moose Lodge is being transformed into The Big Top --> Carnival Style!!
*Attraction Stations*
We have a lot of space in the room to use, and we need your help! At 10 days from early arrival, we have a photobooth confirmed, but we need more!
Attraction stations are taken on by a small group of people, or an individual, with an idea for something taking up between 6'x6' and 12'x12' of space on the moose lodge floor. Preferably it should vaguely gel with the Carnival Circus Vaudeville Theme of the Lodge. Using a tent as a containment for your attraction is now encouraged but
not necessary.
Some initial ideas are on the Big Top page on the site, but you can probably come up with ones at least as good as these =D
Other possible ideas:
* body-painting / make-up station
* foam lances, pedestals or whatnot for American Gladiator style battles
* fortune telling tent / tarot reading tent w/ cushions and a little table (you could rotate the readers or leave cards and instructions for people to do a self reading)
* superhero phone booth (for rapid, confusing costume changes
If you want to take on an attraction, contact us with your idea at
MooseLodge@recompression.com with approximate size of your station so we can place you, and let us know what to put in the program guide about it
*Altered Toys*
In the Carnival theme there are many shades including dark... in the name of Dark Carnival we would like to decorate part of The Big Top (aka Moose Lodge) with Freaks in the form of altered toys hanging from the ceiling using fishing line. So get out your hot glue guns and bring us 2 headed babies, 4 legged men, snake woman... whatever your imagination can dream up. Build them, bring them and we will hang them in the Dark corner of the Carnival for all to see. You will be expected to take your freaks home with you at the end.
*Bring on the Plush*
If everyone brought a couple plushy pillows or giant teddies to lounge on in the corners of the The Big Top we would love it. Just write or pin your name on them and bring 'em down to The Big Top, we will place them for Friday night and you can pick them up again Sunday.
Reminder: Circus Carnival Vaudeville Decoration Materials!! See the "Materials call-out" section of the Big Top page.
)'( )'( )'( Calling all Talent! )'( )'( )'(
This year we want to see more of you. Lots more!
In keeping with the Carnival theme, we're featuring a 'Big Top Weekend' in the
MooseLodge, to allow for extra opportunities to perform!
part 1: Friday Night talent show (9pm to 10pm) where acts are limited to 3min and everybody is welcome to strut their stuff.
We want to hear your poetry or spoken word, see your magic trick, hear you sing a song, tell a joke, do some backflips, whatever you can do in 3min to share your awesome self with us!
part 2: perform at intervals and in between the musical entertainers throughout the weekend at The Big Top, with a captive audience!
If your talent takes more than 3min, then this is for you! Are you a performer with an act that you can share with us, a set list of a few songs, a sideshow act, a play, whatever! Sets will be 15min long.
To participate in either the 1h talent show on Friday night or during the weekend in between DJs, please email talentshow@recompression.com. Tell us a bit about your talent and tech requirements so we can schedule you and please state which option you would prefer (3min or 15min). Thanks!
)'( )'( )'( Peer Support )'( )'( )'(
Peer Support is a sanctuary for anyone who needs someone to talk to, or a place to get away from the party if you're feeling challenged. We're here to help, not judge. We'll be operating from 10 pm to 4 am on Friday night and 10 pm to 6 am (if possible) on Saturday night. Are you a good listener, and able to empathize without judgement? Then volunteer to be a peer support and share your skills with our community! We're looking for friendly folks for two hour shifts, in groups of two per shift. You won't be alone! No first aid or other specialized training is required.
We're still looking for Peer Support volunteers for both Friday and Saturday night (with a greater need for Saturday night), if you can help out please contact Peer Support Pod leader Bonnie by emailing
PeerSupport@recompression.com, subject: Peer Support. Remember - its only two hours and you get to feel great! thanks!
)'( )'( )'( Ground Safety )'( )'( )'(
Ground Safety needs ONE hour of your time on Friday afternoon between lunch and dinner. We need about 15 happy campers to place the tiki torches and fill them with fuel as well as hammering in stakes and stringing caution tape between them.
Those same people will be a great help in placing Christmas lights along the path to the upper lodges. Did you walk along the path last year? Remember how wonderful, sparkley and magical it was as you traipsed up there? We need a lot of Christmas lights in any colour to help put that magic back again.
Then, after you emerge from your cocoon on Sunday, we need help again to take down the torches and pull the stakes and tape, starting at 11am. This part actually goes pretty fast because removal is much faster than placement. We should be done by 11:30am and then you can clean up your cabin.
THANKS!!! Your participation makes Recompression happen!!!! Please email safety@recompression.com to lend your helping hands.
)'( )'( )'( Tickle Trunk )'( )'( )'(
Got a cool Tickle Trunk item that doesn't quite work for you but would look great on someone else? Then bring it on down for our Burner Community Tickle Trunk/Clothing Swap (no commerce here, just trade/gifting), to be located in Center Camp (dining hall). And you might just find something for yourself while you're at it. Great to pass the time while waiting for friends to finish eating! (Please DON'T bring large deposits of items otherwise headed for Goodwill as someone will have to take the leftovers away at the end of the weekend - DO bring a few, or even just one (or none if you just wanna "shop"!) burner-friendly items that are in reasonably good condition. Satisfaction Guaranteed or your money back!
)'( )'( )'( Recompleasure Dome )'( )'( )'(

)'( )'( )'( Callout for materials )'( )'( )'(
Cigarette butt cans: do you work in the food services? We are in need of approx 30 cans for cigarette butts. In the past we've used the really big cans, but smaller ones would do the trick too. Please email LNT@recompression.com if you can bring some so we don't go searching.
Canuckin Funk cabin is looking for:
-a video projector
-CDJ's
-Any Canadiana and/or 70's funk/disco decorations or costumes you could loan or donate. Snowshoes? A Stuffed Beaver? A Disco Ball? Any weird 70's Canadiana?
Donations would be helpful because we can use this for the Canadian Dream project at Burning Man this year. Thanks, eh! Email Erik the Red
Healing Centre: see the Healing Centre page for a list of needs
